The day before the annual NAMM Show, Taylor Guitars traditionally presents a series of custom guitars that are only available at the event at The Catch restaurant in Anaheim, California. Called "Catch Customs," these guitars are built to offer finishes, design options, tonewoods and specifications not normally available through Taylor 's custom order program. Each guitar is handcrafted from the highest quality materials in the Taylor custom shop in the USA.
Tonewoods
The Custom GS C16ce #43 offers a very exclusive tonewood combination with a body made of sassafras and torrefied Sitka spruce. Taylor's torrefaction process, which artificially ages the guitar's top , simulates some of the warmth that normally only appears after a certain amount of break-in time. The result is a transparent sound that puts your unique style front and center. Due to this process, the color / finish of the spruce is not as light as usual, but slightly darker. The special look of the top goes perfectly with the strikingly grained body made of sassafras.
neck and fretboard
A classic ebony fingerboard, as you would expect from a Taylor guitar, sits on a slim, comfortable, patented Taylor neck made of neo-tropical mahogany. The ebony for the fretboard comes from sustainable cultivation on Taylor's own plantation in Cameroon. Although the split Diamond inlays are visually simple, the manufacturing process itself is very complex and complicated. The mahogany neck transitions into an ebony veneer headstock with a mother-of-pearl Taylor logo. Taylor's tried and tested tuning machines in Satin Black ensure the right tuning , whose deliberately simple optics does not distract from the beautiful grain of the body wood.
Design highlights
The top is painted in a natural high-gloss finish, the bottom and sides have a shaded edge burst high-gloss finish . The binding is made of striking red cocobolo wood and stands out visually from the body wood. The Custom Split Diamonds rosette features a wavy pattern of cocobolo and ivoroid. A special design feature is the "Bound sound hole": The sound hole has been elaborately framed with a second ring made of Cocobolo. Taylor's tried and tested Soundport cutaway, which noticeably improves projection when playing, is also included.
Perhaps the biggest highlight, however, is the TaylorSense system : It monitors humidity, temperature, battery life and the stress on the guitar caused by external influences, such as shocks. In addition to monitoring the guitar's condition, TaylorSense also sends the data via bluetooth to the free TaylorSense mobile app, available for both iOS and Android devices, which sends push notifications when the guitar needs care.
