JUNO-106 ACB Expansion
A pioneering polysynthesizer of the 80s - now available as an ACB extension for the FANTOM EX
Ultra-detailed ACB replica of the JUNO-106 polysynthesizer for the FANTOM EX synthesizers.
The JUNO-106 was launched in 1984 as an affordable polyphonic synthesizer for the masses and became one of the most popular instruments of all time. In addition to its simple and clear user interface, it was above all the sounds - lush pads, deep basses and crunchy plucks - that were used in countless hits and are still part of the repertoire of musicians and producers today. With the JUNO-106 ACB extension, you can integrate the sounds and the faithful sound of the analog legend into your FANTOM EX hardware workflow.
How to get the JUNO-106 ACB extension
The JUNO-106 ACB extension is available as a free download for owners of the FANTOM 6 EX, FANTOM 7 EX and FANTOM 8 EX synthesizers. The download is available via the Roland Cloud Manager, the software portal for all Roland Cloud content.
Owners of the FANTOM 6/7/8 synthesizers receive the JUNO-106 ACB extension via the FANTOM EX upgrade in the Roland Cloud. The large update package equips the original FANTOM synthesizers with the complete EX feature set, including the JUPITER-8, SH-101, JX-3P and JUNO-106 ACB expansions, the n/zyme and JD-800 model expansions, two new grand pianos and much more.
The FANTOM EX is the latest model in the FANTOM series and adds innovative new possibilities to Roland leading synthesizer platform. Multiple sound engines, extensive composition and performance tools and exceptional playability characterize the Fantom series and make it a creative tool for live, studio, sound design and composition.
The keyboard of the Fantom 8 EX has 88 weighted keys with velocity and aftertouch . The PHA-50 keyboard (known from Roland pianos) with an ivory-feel finish and escapement simulation is used. Each FANTOM EX model offers the same internal functions, the same user interface and identical connections. The only differences are the keyboard, size and weight.
The almost limitless creativity begins with the various sound engines. Whether ACB, ZEN-Core, V-Piano, SuperNATURAL VTW or other Roland technologies - the FANTOM EX offers expressive sounds for every style of music. FANTOM EX offers a gigantic library of groundbreaking Roland sounds. Whether for producing, composing or for live performances - the selection includes more than 7,000 internal sounds as well as a variety of powerful synthesis tools. Up to 16 sounds can be combined in one scene to build complex splits, layers and sequenced parts.
Roland Analog Circuit Behavior (ACB) technology faithfully reproduces the analog circuits of some Roland classics, providing an authentic analog sound experience. FANTOM EX includes three ACB instruments.
(The JUPITER-8 and SH-101 ACB extensions are already installed in the FANTOM EX. The JX-3P is available free of charge in the Roland Cloud for all FANTOM EX owners and buyers of the FANTOM EX upgrade for the original FANTOM models).
In addition, the Fantom EX also includes six pre-installed model expansions based on the versatile ZEN core system. (JUPITER-8, JUNO-106, JX-8P, SH-101, JD-800 and the wavetable synthesizer n/zyme)
The V-Piano user interface has been redesigned and now enables an even smoother workflow. The German Concert V-Piano Expansion 01 is also installed ex works. In addition to SuperNATURAL acoustic and electric pianos, the FANTOM EX also includes the newly developed SuperNATURAL Acoustic Piano 3 Expansion.
If that is not enough for you in the future, you can access a constantly growing selection of ZEN-Core sound Packs and Wave Expansions (via Roland Cloud).
With its seamless computer integration, powerful composition tools and wide range of connectivity options, the FANTOM EX can quickly become the heart of your production environment. In addition to customizable touchscreen control , there are specific modes for popular software platforms, including Ableton Live, Logic Pro, MainStage, Cubase and Studio One. With the integrated 16x3 audio/ midi USB interface, you can mix and layer software synthesizers with hardware sounds , send sequencer parts to computer tracks, route DAW sources through the FANTOM EX effects and much more.
The FANTOM EX is also a versatile musical composition platform that quickly produces results (even without a computer). The integrated clip-based midi sequencer has 16 tracks with 8 variations each. Similar to a computer, a piano roll editor and many other useful functions are available directly in the Fantom EX.
The extensive sampler makes it easy to sample both internal and external sources. If you want to go even further, you can create detailed multisamples with up to 352 samples per sound .
There is also a modern stereo vocoder with 32 bands.
The huge effects library, including new Shimmer reverb and Modulation reverb, as well as the extensive pad section round off the concept and make the Fantom one of the most comprehensive workstations on the market.

The Fantom series models represent a new synthesiser concept at Roland, which has been continuously developed for years.
In contrast to conventional workstations, the Fantom series can be expanded with new functions, sounds and technologies via the Roland Cloud platform.
With the Fantom series, Roland has succeeded in combining many extensive workstation functions with a simple and clear user interface. In addition to the workstations from the Fantom series, you can choose from the brand new "top models" from the Fantom EX series and the somewhat "slimmed-down" versions of the Fantom-0 series.
All variants are similar in design. However, the Fantom EX is far better equipped than the Fantom-0 series. More power, V-Piano Engine, available model expansions, connection options and other keyboards are just some of the features that differentiate the Fantom series.
All Fantoms also offer interesting integration options in various DAWs such as LogicPro or Ableton Live.
Roland was founded as a manufacturer of various music materials and studio technology on April 18, 1972 in Osaka, Japan. Among the earliest products to come onto the market were the first rhythm machines from the TR series, whose successors TR-808, TB-303 and TR-909 had a significant influence on both techno and electro music, as well as hip hop scene. The JC-120 Jazz chorus guitar amplifier was also created in the mid-1970s, and both Andy Summers from The Police as well as Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield from Metallica were audibly impressed by its ultra-clear sound in conjunction with the built-in chorus effect . Since then and to this day, Roland has continuously expanded its catalog with high-quality and interesting products in a wide variety of fields such as digital pianos, groove boxes, e-drums and synthesizers.
