The Mesa/Boogie 1x12 Boogie 23 Open Back Cabinet is a larger, richer and more spacious sounding version of the Boogie 19 Cab that is perfect for anyone who needs a fat open back sound but can only transport one cabinet. This cabinet is perfect for everything from traditional blues and R&B to classic rock and nu-country. This enlarged version of the classic Boogie Cabinet is suitable for a variety of sounds and genres, has a small footprint and is super portable. The design of this speaker fits perfectly with the heads from the Mesa/Boogie Fillmore series .

In the late 1960s, Randall Smith, one of the San Francisco Bay Area's most famous amplifier repairers, was inspired to build his own amplifier model after learning to appreciate the tweed circuits of the 1950s. He loved their organic sound, the effective controls , and the way the sound changed smoothly from clean to distortion and back again when the gain control was turned.
In order to advance with his own amplifier designs and concepts, he settled in Pentaluma, California in 1969 and worked on further developing his amplifier model.
The typical, heavily distorted sound of his Mesa/Boogie amplifier model was initially the result of an electrically incorrectly dimensioned preamplifier. The company's founder, Randall Smith, was unsure whether the pre-amp would have enough power to drive the amplifier , so he designed it with four double triodes, of which the first seven triodes are still used today to amplification the input signal.
Many years later , Mesa/Boogie has become one of the major global players in the market for high-quality guitar and bass amplifiers and is a leader in the development of modern amp designs and circuits.
