The Jackson Josh Smith Pro SL7 Soloist in detail
About the artist
Josh Smith and his band Northlane play rock-hard punk and metalcore. Progressive, creative, unpredictable, with a lot of oomph and energy. The band was formed in Sydney, Australia in 2009 and is considered a trendsetter in the heavy scene. Every album sounds different. Northlane spice up their sound with elements from other genres and constantly vary it. The driving force behind the stylistic development is founding member, songwriter and rhythm guitarist Josh Smith. Northlane recorded a debut EP in 2010 and have since recorded four impressive studio albums that showcase their instrumental and lyrical prowess. The 2016 album Node reached the top of the ARIA Charts (Australia's major music sales charts) and won the ARIA Award for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album. Josh Smith played a big part in these successes and deservedly receives his own signature guitar from Jackson .
7-string heavy board
Right from the start of the collaboration on the seven-string luxury guitar, it was clear that it should have a 27" scale length . The length is important in order to enable the numerous sound facets and extremely deep tunings that Josh attaches importance to. The alder body has ergonomic contours The caramelized maple neck is routed through the body and reinforced with graphite rods, providing high stability and enabling long sustain.
If you play hard and fast, you have to manage your strength - that's why everything on the guitar is designed for comfortable, effortless playing. The 12"-16" compound radius ebony fretboard with 24 jumbo frets is more curved at the nut to make chords easier to finger. It becomes flatter towards the body and offers the perfect minimal curvature in the high registers for epic solos and powerful bending. And because it is traditionally pitch black on stage at metalcore concerts, the guitar has been given Luminlay side dots. They glow in the dark and make orientation on the fretboard easier. If the neck needs to be adjusted, this can be done quickly and easily using the wheel at the base of the neck.

Surprisingly versatile
Under the hood is an HS configuration with Smith's own Bare Knuckle Impulse pickup set. The Impulse bridge humbucker sounds full and crisp, it shows its strengths especially in deep tunings, powerfully represents medium- gain sounds with rocky mids and brings creamy overdrive sounds so precisely that they come through well in the mix. The Impulse single-coil on the neck produces crisp, compressed bass and super-smooth highs. The two pickups can be controlled with the 3-way switches and two black volume controls in Strat style. An EverTune F7 bridge makes it possible for the instrument to never go out of tune and keeps the intonation absolutely precise over the entire length of the fingerboard, even with deep tunings. Yes, even with a mercilessly hard playing style.
The aquamarine finish, in which the licensed Fender Stratocaster 7 series headstock is also painted, is a real feast for the eyes. The cool color harmonizes beautifully with the all-black hardware, the PPS saddle, Dunlop strap locks and Jackson locking tuners.

Jackson Guitars was created when Grover Jackson took over the well-known company Charvel's Guitar Repair in 1978. The collaboration with the then Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Randy Rhoads in 1980 resulted in the Rhoads body shape, which is still available today, and also marked the start of Jackson Guitars. The timing was just right because heavy metal was experiencing a heyday in the 1980s and the trend (started by Eddie Van Halen) was so-called super or power strats. These are guitars that are visually more or less based on the classic ST form , but are equipped with more modern and stylistically more suitable components such as humbuckers or Floyd Rose tremolos. Jackson soon earned a reputation as a forger of premium, American-built, high-end custom instruments that could be seen in the hands of many well-known guitarists of the time. With the musical changes of the 1990s, Jackson Guitars began opening factories in the Far East in order to be able to offer their instruments in cheaper areas. Since 2002, both Jackson and Charvel have been part of the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation.
