As early as 1950, Fender began developing the new guitar, which was later christened the Stratocaster. After consulting with a number of well-known guitarists, including western swing musician Bill Carson and entertainer Rex Galleon, for whom Leo Fender was to build the perfect guitar, the design for the Stratocaster began to take shape. It was to have three pickups, a more comfortable, ergonomically shaped body and a completely new feature: the vibrato.
In 1954, the Fender Stratocaster finally came onto the market. The instrument looked like no guitar before it: the body appeared curvier and more flowing than that of the Telecaster and was intended to increase playing comfort, the new headstock was somewhat reminiscent of the old Bigsby headstocks, the jack socket was elegantly recessed into the side of the body instead of on the top and the Strat was equipped with three single-coil pickups.
The Fender Custom Shop has set itself the task of studying the high-quality vintage Stratocasters of yesteryear and reproducing them down to the smallest detail. Here we have a very special Custom Shop one-off for you, modelled on a Stratocaster from the 1950s:
The Fender LTD Custom Shop 57 Stratocaster Relic Faded Aged Sherwood Green Metallic is a classic ST-style electric guitar with a two-piece alder body. Alder wood was already used in the original Stratocaster guitars since the end of the 1950s and provides the basis for the perfect vintage sound. The body wood was selected by hand to ensure a particularly light weight and thus improve playing comfort. The aged maple neck with maple fingerboard features a '57 Style Soft "V" profile in the style of the 50s and a fingerboard radius of 9,5", which offers the perfect compromise between vintage feel and modern comfort and makes it easier for the left hand to grip. The guitar is equipped with a classic S-S-S pickup combination of a Fender Custom Shop Texas Special™ on the bridge, a Fender Custom Shop Handwound Fat 50s Strat RWRP and a Fender Custom Shop Handwound '57 Strat single coil on the neck. Other features include Fender Vintage Style tuners, white potentiometer caps, a Fender Vintage Synchronized Tremolo Bridge and a single-ply white pickguard.
This model is finished in an eye-catching Faded Aged Sherwood Green Metallic. The thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish ensures that the wood can vibrate particularly well and that the lacquer finish ages more beautifully. The guitar is beautifully dinged, dented and even a little scratched. One of the most attractive features of this Relic stage is the worn neck. You'll feel the raw wood under your hand, giving you the comfort of your favourite pair of worn-in sneakers. As soon as you pick up a Relic, you'll feel like you've been playing it for years.
The Fender LTD Custom Shop 57 Stratocaster Relic Faded Aged Sherwood Green Metallic comes with a certificate of authenticity in a luxurious original Fender Custom Shop Tweed case with red velvet lining, allowing you to safely transport your new dream guitar and protect it from external influences. A Custom shop strap is also included.
