Practicality and functionality ruled at Fender, especially in the early years. With the Telecaster, or Tele for short, Fender produced a guitar that was reduced to the essential functions, could be assembled quickly and easily from several parts and was therefore easy to repair. The guitars could therefore also be offered at a comparatively affordable price.
Fender's production methods made it possible to manufacture the instruments easily while maintaining the same quality, but also produced a different sound. The clear, long decaying sounds of the Telecaster clearly set it apart from the fat Gibson style jazz sound. The Fender Custom Shop has set itself the task of studying the high-quality vintage Telecasters of that time and reproducing them down to the smallest detail. Here we have a very special Custom Shop one-off for you, modelled on a Tele from the mid-50s:
The Fender LTD Custom Shop 55 Telecaster Journeyman Relic Wide-Fade 2-Color Sunburst is a classic T-style electric guitar with a two-piece ash body. Ash wood was already used in the original Telecaster guitars and provides the basis for the perfect vintage sound. The body wood was selected by hand to ensure a particularly light weight and thus improve playing comfort. The aged riftsawn maple neck with maple fingerboard features a 11/56 Off Center V profile in the style of the 50s and a fingerboard radius of 9,5", which offers the perfect compromise between vintage feel and modern comfort and makes it easier for the left hand to grip. The guitar is equipped with a classic S-S pickup combination of two Fender Custom Shop Hand-Wound '55/'56 Tele single coils. Other features include Fender Vintage Style tuners, Dome Speed Knob in with an aged nickel design, a Fender '55-'57 Tele Bridge and a single ply white 5-hole pickguard.
This model is painted in a classic Wide Fade 2-Color Sunburst. The thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish ensures that the wood can vibrate particularly well and that the lacquer finish ages more beautifully. The guitar is beautifully dinged, dented and even a little scratched. One of the most attractive features of this Relic stage is the worn neck. You'll feel the raw wood under your hand, giving you the comfort of your favourite pair of worn-in sneakers. As soon as you pick up a Relic, you'll feel like you've been playing it for years.
