About Kirk Hammett
Even as a child and teenager, the young Kirk Hammett showed great interest in his older brother's extensive record collection, which included albums by Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath , the Rolling Stones and UFO , among others. However, his biggest influence was Jimi Hendrix . After Kirk learned to play on a department store guitar at the age of 15, he switched first to the Fender Stratocaster and then to the Gibson Flying V and Les Paul . Kirk joined Metallica in 1983 , after his predecessor Dave Mustaine was fired from the group due to drug and alcohol problems. Shortly afterwards, Kirk recorded their first album Kill 'Em All with Metallica . To further improve his guitar playing, he took lessons from Joe Satriani himself. Although Kirk is primarily a solo guitarist , he has also been involved in songwriting since the '80s. One of his most famous riffs is of course the intro to Enter Sandman .

Often copied, never reached
Kirk has now amassed a considerable collection of guitars , including some real rarities. Among them is one of his most famous instruments, the Gibson Les Paul from 1959, called "Greeny", which has some exciting details that distinguish it from an ordinary Les Paul Standard. 1959 Les Pauls are extremely rare and therefore trade at astronomical prices . The numerous copies from Gibson are also significantly more expensive than average Les Paul standard models. In order to give price-conscious guitarists the opportunity to play a real Les Paul 1959 in the style of Kirk's "Greeny", Epiphone is now bringing a new signature model of the Metallica guitarist onto the market: the Epiphone Kirk Hammett "Greeny" 1959 Les Paul Default .
A guitar with an illustrious past
The Greeny is one of the most iconic original Les Paul standards ever made , with a unique sound as distinctive as the guitar itself. It was formerly owned by Peter Green , who played it during his time with Fleetwood Mac , and later by Gary Moore who used her for three decades with Thin Lizzy and as a solo artist. Today owned by Kirk Hammett , the Greeny has passed through the hands of three legendary guitarists . Their distinctive sound is due in part to the out-of-phase center switch position created by the neck pickup's reversed magnetic polarity . Inspired by Kirk's legendary original, this exceptional guitar gives players around the world the opportunity to experience some of the magic of "Greeny" for themselves. It is equipped with premium components including Gibson Greenybucker pickup, a Switchcraft pickup switch, CTS potentiometers, Mallory capacitors and Grover Rotomatic tuning machines with Spade knobs on an Openbook headstock. The instrument was developed in collaboration with the Gibson custom shop . A brown hardshell case with a Vintage -style pink lining is including .
