The name Dobro is now mostly used as a generic term for resonator guitars with a wooden body, but there is also a company behind it. The Dobro company was founded in the USA in the 1920s by the Slovak immigrant Dopyra family. Several family members worked as guitar makers and decided to start their own guitar making business. In the 1930s, Dobro Guitars became part of the National String instrument Company, which still produces high-quality resonator guitars under the name National Resophonics. However, Dobro now belongs to the Gibson group and has set itself the purpose of producing primarily in the affordable price range and thus giving beginners the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of bluegrass music.
