The right climate for your acoustic guitar

To ensure that your acoustic guitar remains in the optimal condition in which you received them from us, we would like to give you some basic information and care tips.

Wood and climate

Your acoustic guitar is mostly made of wood, a grown natural product. Wood has the features of hygroscopicity, which means that when the outside air is dry, it releases moisture to the outside and, conversely, absorbs it when the air humidity is high. When moisture is released, the wood shrinks and its volume decreases; when moisture is absorbed, it swells and increases its volume. High-quality tonewood is used in guitar making. The high moisture content of the fresh wood is gently dried down to 12 to 15% and, after further storage and pre-treatment, processed with a residual moisture of 8 to 12%. In doing so, it develops its desired static and tonal properties.

Optimal storage

Due to the hygroscopic features of the wood, we recommend a relative humidity of 45 to 55% around the acoustic guitar. Therefore, monitor the relative humidity in the suitcase or in the room with a calibrated hygrometer. If the recommended range is exceeded or not met, please contact us so that we can give you detailed advice on creating optimal conditions for your string instrument. Ideally, store your acoustic guitar in a case and never near a running heater - including underfloor heating. When hanging on a wall, avoid outside walls and drafts.
