Analog Circuit Behavior
Roland Analog Circuit Behaviour (ACB) technology faithfully recreates analog circuits and all their interactions at the component level, providing an authentic analog sound experience in the digital world. Fantom EX includes three ACB instruments with the latest ACB innovations, including the Circuit Mod and Condition functions, which can be used to adjust the vintage character in different gradations.
JUPITER-8 ACB-Expansion
The JUPITER-8 was released in 1981 and is one of the most famous and sought-after polyphonic synthesizers ever. With the JUPITER-8 ACB expansion, the Fantom EX contains a comprehensive replica of this vintage icon right down to the circuit level.
SH-101 ACB-Expansion
The SH-101 ACB extension for the Fantom EX is a faithful reproduction of the famous Roland SH-101 mono synthesiser from 1982, which continues to influence electronic music around the world to this day.
JX-3P ACB-Expansion
In 1983, the JX-3P ushered in a new era: straightforward looks, uncomplicated recall of presets and stable tuning via digitally controlled analogue oscillators. With the JX-3P ACB extension, you can integrate this underground classic into your Fantom EX workflow. The sound is indistinguishable from the original.
The JUPITER-8 and SH-101 ACB expansions are already installed in the Fantom EX. The JX-3P is available free of charge in the Roland Cloud for all Fantom EX owners and purchasers of the Fantom EX upgrade for the original Fantom models.
The Power of ZEN-Core
The flexible and expandable ZEN-Core synthesis system is based on decades of Roland development experience and offers an extensive selection of electronic, acoustic and hybrid sounds. Develop nuanced and expressive sounds with up to four partials - each with its own oscillator, filter, amplifier, dual LFO and effects. Combine up to 16 sounds in a scene to build complex splits, layers and sequenced parts.

From popular classics to the pioneers of the future, Model Expansions offer unprecedented access to the historic, ever-evolving world of Roland synthesisers. The Fantom EX includes six pre-installed Model Expansions based on the versatile ZEN Core system. The Roland Cloud offers a constantly growing selection of ZEN-Core Sound Packs and Wave Expansions. The variety of styles is expanded with new titles every month - so your music always sounds new and fresh.
n/zyme Model Expansion
n/zyme is a modern instrument based on a completely new synthesiser engine developed specifically for the Fantom platform. Combining wavetable oscillator layers, phase and shape modulation, resonance filters and two incredibly powerful step LFOs, n/zyme is a highly interactive musical tool that inspires endless creative exploration.
Vintage Model Expensions
The Model Expansions of the vintage synthesizers JD-800, JUNO-106, JUPITER-8, JX-8P and SH-101 capture the essence of these legendary Roland instruments, enhanced with greater polyphony and more up-to-date features for modern musicians and producers.
World-class pianos
Many keyboard players have learnt their musical foundations on an acoustic piano. The Fantom EX utilises advanced V-Piano and SuperNATURAL technologies. These enable the pianos not only to sound real, but also to feel real. The user interface of the V-Piano has been improved, resulting in a smoother workflow. The German Concert V-Piano Expansion 01, familiar from the RD-2000, is pre-installed as standard. In addition to the leading SuperNATURAL acoustic and electric pianos, the Fantom EX also includes the newly developed SuperNATURAL Acoustic Piano 3 Expansion.
Essential organs
The Virtual ToneWheel Engine from Roland enables the precise reproduction of the sound generation of a vintage organ and includes various tone wheel types, customisable percussion, key click, background noises and more. There is also an expansive rotary effect with variable rotation speed, brake control and optional tube distortion. For an authentic organ experience, the touchscreen, sliders, knobs and key response are automatically adjusted for comfortable sound control and responsive playing.
