When developing the Fantom series , emphasis was placed on a particularly fast and smooth workflow . Confusing modes, frustrating technical limitations, or compromises in sound quality simply no longer exist. Instead, different composition tools , creative environments that can be accessed at any time and from anywhere, as well as comprehensive and seamless computer integration are convincing.

Everything we compose or produce with the Fantom workstations - and it doesn't matter whether it's just an initial idea or a finished song - is stored in user-friendly creative environments, so-called scenes . A maximum of 128 scenes are available in 4 banks . These scenes can be combined with each other and changed and processed immediately without gaps or disruptions.

How does the Roland Fantom sound?

When it comes to sound and sound design, nothing was left to chance with the new Roland Fantom. Inside the Roland workstations there is a flexible and expandable sound engine . The technology used is based on decades of research and development. Ultimately, only the best sounds made it into the Fantom. The selection menu offers over 3,500 inspiring sounds and over 90 drum kits . When you first scroll through, you immediately discover the variety that was put into the elaborate and authentic sound design. Hybrid and contemporary electronic sounds alternate with the best acoustic sounds ever to come from a Roland product. The new Fantom allows different synthesis and sampling technologies and thus both internal and external sounds to be combined with one another.

Is that a real piano?

Since the piano is at the center of the creative process for many producers and keyboardists, the Roland company has developed the V-Piano technology . The Grand Piano in the Fantom Workstations not only sounds like a real piano , it also feels exactly the same in the 88-key version and thanks to the built-in PHA-50 keyboard . The pianists among you will be thrilled.

Analog filter?

They're usually only in synthesizers! As if that wasn't enough, the Fantom models have been given an additional and extensive synthesizer section . The Fantom synth engine is part-based and, thanks to the classic synthesizer structure - consisting of an oscillator , filter , amplifier , dual LFO and effects - offers all sorts of creative gadgets that allow you to create extremely complicated and crazy sounds in no time. The integrated analog filter from the synthesizer section provides additional warmth.

Sequencing – par excellence

As with its predecessors, the new Roland Fantom workstations also have an extensive and fully-fledged recording studio under the hood. However, the old sequencer was not simply copied in this area either; the developers have developed a completely independent creative platform with which compositions and arrangements can be recorded quickly and smoothly .

Different styles of music sometimes require different approaches. The Fantom therefore offers 16 RGB pads , a classic pattern sequencer in the TR-REC style , a real-time recording function including a piano roll editor and a grid for clip-based sequencing . It's up to you whether you only use one of the recording options in your workflow or simply use all of them at the same time.

Don't lose connection

Although the Fantom workstations are already bursting with power in “stand-alone operation” and actually leave nothing to be desired, their power increases exponentially when you connect them to a computer or external synthesizers. The new Fantom models have a high-quality audio interface with 16 stereo outputs and 3 stereo inputs that are just waiting to be wired. Synthesizer freaks will be happy to be able to control their analog synthesizers or drum machines via the Fantom's double CV/ gate outputs . In addition, the large touchscreen can be used to operate software synthesizers, integrate them into the workflow as scenes or mix internal and external sounds and layer them on top of each other.
