After our collaborations with Fender and Gibson and the design of numerous high-quality and unique guitars, we at session have decided to launch our own session Select series with special specifications in co-operation with PRS Guitars: The PRS Wood Library session Select Custom 24.
PRS Custom 24 with session Specs
The Custom 24, the classic PRS guitar, served as the basis for our session Select models. These models were of course also designed in collaboration with our Custom Shop guru Olli Lohmann from our Frankfurt store and we have been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to finally hold these special pieces of jewellery in our hands. What a Custom 24 is all about
The Custom 24 is the quintessential PRS guitar. This iconic instrument was the first model Paul Reed Smith introduced to the public at PRS Guitars' first Winter NAMM show in 1985 and has been a top seller ever since. The Custom 24 is played by internationally touring artists, musicians and aspiring guitarists. It features PRS's patented Gen III tremolo system and PRS 85/15 pickups with volume and tone controls and a 5-way switch.
What means Wood Library?
The Wood Library programme is somewhat similar to the Private Stock programme in that it is a sophisticated, menu-based programme for the PRS Core guitar line that allows us as a PRS dealer to create special series for our customers. The wood combinations that we as dealers can put together when ordering a series of instruments from the Wood Library are unique. Take our Custom 24 model, for example, which comes standard with a mahogany back, maple top, mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard. However, we have swapped the neck for flamed maple and the fretboard for ziricote and left the body woods the same as the original Custom 24.
Ten tops for an exclusive look
Only a very small percentage of the maple trees felled in North America are actually figured. To achieve ‘10-Top’ status, a PRS top must have a clearly defined grain across the entire top. A guitar labelled ‘10-Top’ has a small ‘10’ on the back of the headstock in the upper right corner.
Flamed necks with Ziricote fretboards
For an elegant look, our PRS Wood Library session Select guitars are fitted with flamed necks that are painted in the matching body finish. The fingerboards are made of ziricote, a wood that has similar sound characteristics to rosewood but a different, more striking grain. The headstocks are also veneered with ziricote.
In 2024, PRS Guitars revised the tuning machines of the Custom 24. While the new wing knobs are aesthetically based on the design of the Bird Wingspan inlays at the 12th fret, these knobs are lighter than their metal predecessors, they extract less energy from the vibrating strings and thus help the guitar to sound longer and convince with a richer sound.
Pickups and tremolo
Our PRS Wood Library session Select guitars are equipped with PRS 85/15 humbuckers. These classic, open-back Custom 24 pickups offer remarkable transparency and extended high and low end, making them perfect for more modern styles of music. The PRS Patented Tremolo Gen III offers meticulous design characterised by sonic precision, ergonomic features and revolutionary tuning stability.
An eyecatcher in five stunning colours
The PRS Wood Library session Select Custom 24 is available in five exciting burst finishes: Charcoal Jade Burst, Charcoal Tri-Colour Burst, Charcoal Blue Burst, Charcoal Cherry Burst and Charcoal Purple Burst. There are two of each colour, and we have photographed each guitar individually for you.
