The first archtop electric guitar from Gretsch was the Electromatic Spanish, a hollowbody model that laid the foundation for Gretsch's success story in electric guitars. The Electromatic Collection was named after her and aspects of her design can still be found in Gretsch's hollowbody models today, such as the floating pickguard and the enlarged F-holes for improved acoustic projection.

Electromatic: body construction
The current Electromatic Collection offers a variety of construction and body shapes, from solid, hollowbody and semi-hollow models, which Gretsch calls centerblock models, to basses and lapsteel guitars. Electric guitars are available in single cut, double cut and Jr versions. All instruments can be identified by the model name, which begins with “G5”.
Electromatic: Tonewoods
Mahogany and maple are used as tonewoods, solid body and semi-hollow models have a so-called chambering, in which the weight is reduced by hollowed out chambers in the body and center block. This design is usually used in high-priced instruments. The comfortable, flat 12-inch-radius laurel fingerboards sit atop slim mahogany or maple necks and are decorated with mother-of-pearl inlays.

Electromatic: pickup
The pickup in the Electromatic Collection are of our own manufacture: The Gretsch Black Top Broad'Tron humbuckers produce a wide, balanced and transparent tone that ranges from a fat, aggressive overdrive to a pristine clean tone, with an exceptional tonal balance. Gretsch P-90E single coils are also used on some instruments with slightly less output but more sound definition.
Electromatic: Electronics and Parts
The controls layout consists of a master volume controls with treble bleed circuit, a master tone controls, two separate pickup volume controls and a 3-way pickup toggle switch. Other distinctive features include Adjusto-Matic bridges, the well-known G-Arrow controls and Graph Tech NuBone saddles. Models with a “T” in the name also have a licensed Bigsby vibrato, which gives the sound a special shimmer.

Electromatic: colors and finishes
The instruments are available in many colors and designs, from Vintage style to modern, bright colors and metallic finishes, every guitarist will find the right instrument for the big stage. The best sound is guaranteed in any case. With this in mind: “Play Proud!”
