What makes the Special models special?
The Special models make the famous Gibson sound accessible to guitarists who don't want to miss out on the distinctive Gibson logo and the ‘made in the USA’ label despite having a smaller budget. With the new Hummingbird Special, J-45 Special and L-00 Special models, Gibson is presenting new interpretations of three classic models that are inextricably linked to Gibson's history. These guitars are priced below those of the Standard series, which were previously the go-to guitars in the Gibson line, but above the visually simplified Studio models.

Gibson quality for everyone
The Special models are instantly recognisable as Gibson guitars in both look and sound and are suitable for both professional and ambitious hobby musicians. All guitars feature a solid Sitka spruce top with Gibson's traditional scalloped X-bracing for a balanced tone with excellent dynamic range. Both the top and the back are finished with a single-ply, cream-coloured binding. The narrower body shape ensures a nuanced sound and gives the Special guitars a more focused and tighter bass response that blends in perfectly with the overall sound. Smooth-running Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners ensure solid tuning stability. Each Special model is available with a satin nitrocellulose lacquer finish in the colours Sunburst or Wine Red.
L.R. Baggs Pickup for the amplified sound
All Gibson Special models are equipped with an active L.R. Baggs Element Bronze piezo pickup under the saddle and an active preamp with an easily accessible volume control in the soundhole, so the guitars are ready for the stage and studio as soon as you take them out of the included Gibson premium softshell case.
Unlike typical bridge pickups for acoustic guitars, which usually develop their sound depending on the string compression, the L.R. Baggs Element System was developed to capture the actual movement of the guitar top.
At the heart of the pickup is a flexible sensor film, only two thousandths of an inch thick, which captures even the most delicate nuances of the guitar.
